MiguelIrizarry (a.k.a. Temper)
@inkbytemper81
Miguel Irizarry, known professionally as Temper, is a proud Puerto Rican and
Mexican tattoo artist from the West Side of Chicago. Growing up in neighborhoods like Humboldt Park, Logan Square, Avondale, and Austin, he was surrounded by gang violence, drugs, and a harsh reality where survival was never guaranteed. It was a place where the life expectancy felt almost non-existent, and hope was hard to find.
Miguel’s life has been marked by loss after loss—people he thought would always stand by him were stolen from his life in ways that left deep scars. His father has been shot. He’s been shot. His godson has been shot. And many family members have been taken from him by the relentless grip of gun violence and drugs. Through all the pain, the
one thing that never left him was his art. Tattooing became his refuge, his escape, and ultimately, his way to transform the suffering into something meaningful.
He got his start tattooing in places that most would avoid—trap houses, basements, kitchens, hotel rooms, and even bathrooms. Despite the chaos around him, Miguel honed his craft in these spaces, learning to turn pain into powerful art. Tattooing became his way of rewriting his story and reclaiming the power that life had tried to strip away from him.
Now, with over a decade of experience, Temper is known for his expertise in cover-ups and his ability to tackle extreme, hard-to-reach placements—taking on challenges that others shy away from. His reputation has been built on his ability to transform old ink into fresh, bold pieces and his relentless pursuit of perfection in even the most complex designs. Over the past five years, he’s toured with Freestyle Mania, earned multiple awards, and earned a respected name within the tattoo community. But for Miguel, it’s never been about the recognition. It’s about the trust he builds with each client and the stories he gets to help tell through his work.
For Miguel, tattooing is more than just a career. It’s a means of transformation, a way to tell personal stories, and proof that no matter where you come from, no matter how many losses you face, you can always leave your mark.
